2008 Edinburgh Fringe Reviews

Adams and Rea

No, it’s not Bryan and Chris. Adams and Rea are Sarah Adams (who performed as solo act Jade the Folk Singer at previous Edinburgh festivals) and Leisa Rea. They play string (guitar, ukulele, mandolin, banjo) instruments and sing songs as well as some interesting dance moves and a little audience participation.

The room is a small portakabin next to the toilets at the back of the Pleasance complex. It gets very hot in the room so take a drink with you. Sarah and Leisa made a big entrance bouncing into their chairs and getting the show started with a big burst of energy. There were a lot of very funny songs in the show including my favourite which was for schoolkids and on the subject of recycling. Brilliantly disgraceful dancing in this piece. The a capella was also very funny but to explain why would give the joke away. Another highlight was the song set in the therapists office which did get very dark and scary. We also had some questions for the audience which were incorporated into the finale and some audience playing percussion instruments.

So for an hour of funny but slightly evil songs from two very accomplished singers and musicians in a small but cosy room in the early afternoon, you can’t get much better than this. The chemistry between the two women was very strong although I did wonder if Leisa got to reveal any of Sarah’s secrets on different days.
