Sean Choolaburra – Live and Deadly
I’m not really sure what to say about this show as there were only four audience members and we were all from Australia! So whether Sean will appeal to the local crowd or whether a Scot could understand his Aussie references, I still don’t know. I’m fairly sure the small crowd was mainly due to the 6 hours of rain and generally dreary weather we were having but I can only report as I saw.

The show started with Sean chatting to the audience and talking about Australia. He talked about his childhood and growing up in Townsville and Sydney, being a dancer and playing the Didgeridoo, coming to the UK and the 80s. Sean’s conversation was peppered with little throwaway puns and bad jokes amidst the tales of his life. Some of the jokes were a little to Christmas-crackers for me though.
There was also some audience participation. Now if you have an audience of four people, it might be prudent to drop the two times in your act where you get someone on stage. I just think that if there are less that ten people at a show, then audience participation should be made illegal (unless you have everyone up together). The best parts of the show were the Didge playing and the stories about Sean’s life. I’m sure the dancing would appeal to the ladies but I just wasn’t expecting quite so much in a comedy show.
So come and see this show if you like dancing, learning about Australia through jokes or seeing some excellent didge. Or bring your kids along to Sean’s morning workshop where you can learn to play the didge.
