The Riot Showgrrrls Club
Upon entry to this show, the audience are greeted with wine and cakes before being shown to their seats. The two hosts of the show, Mistress Lilith and Mistress Magdalene start with a few delightful ditties about the joys of being women before explaining the motivation for their show. Apparently they feel that the modern porn industry demeans and objectifies women as well as condoning violence and paedophilia. Well of course, but I thought they didn’t go far enough as the same charges could be levelled at the fashion and cosmetics industries (and I think the men in most of the porn videos are just as much victims but it’s not my show so…).

We are shown some images of hardcore pornography and hardcore pornographers to illustrate the points made by the ladies (at this point some of the more squeamish audience member will leave), as well as quotes which are quite, well, hideous from esteemed gentlemen such as Larry Flint and Hugh Hefner.
After this little piece of shock treatment, we are once again regaled with songs, some original and some reworking of classics from people such as Fats Waller and Tom Lehrer. There are games and drawing competitions and generally a fun evening was had by all. The girls were having a great time acting and singing, the banter was very inclusive and it was a little like spending the evening in someone’s lounge.
This show isn’t for everyone. If you are easily offended by porn (it’s only a couple of photos for a minute so you could close your eyes), or you are a regular subscriber to Playboy (or any other magazine of that ilk) then you probably would disagree that the women should even be up on the stage trying to open our eyes to the dangers of modern civilization. I had a great time and thought that the message was very well delivered amidst all the music and chat. A great way to finish the evening.
