2008 Edinburgh Fringe Reviews

Watson and Oliver

This is a female duo who have been playing to sell-out crowds at the Fringe for the past three years. This, their new show, is as funny as in previous years but with all new material. The room is a small airless portable hut and with a full crowd it gets very steamy.

The girls start the show with a big number entitled The Two Lisa’s. If you don’t know who Lisa Tarbuck is, you’ll probably be a bit lost in this number, but they do help you out with some of the lyrics in the song. After this we get a rollercoaster of sketches including a very sick story about the Nazi Shark Party and a heartbreaking tale of forbidden love in the bullfighting arena (although the big grin as the lights faded on the death scene let it down a fraction). The scene with the blind bride was a sort of sequel to a scene in last years show and was just dirty. The running joke about roles in an upcoming Bond film led to the big finale in the show and had the audience almost on their feet cheering at the end.

So for an hour of two polished and professional comics giving their all for the sake of being silly on a stage, for the chance to sit in a hot airless box and for the opportunity to say I saw them before they got snapped up by the BBC (which they should), you should book a ticket for this show. It will sell out.
